Routine Pet Exam

We may advise families to bring their pets for routine vet care at least one time per year. If your pet has certain conditions, we may advise you to bring you pet in more often. We can discuss this at your first appointment.

At the routine examination, we may have you fill out a medical history report about your pet. We will likely ask you about any concerns or questions you may have about the current status of your pet’s health.

A veterinarian on our veterinary team can physically examine your pet and even feel around on his or her skin to look for any indications of a problem. The evaluation may include a urinalysis and blood work to evaluate your pet's organ function, immune system, hydration/electrolyte balance, or more. We may also order a fecal test to assess for any type of intestinal parasite. Sometimes, further testing may be necessary if your pet has a chronic health condition. This allows us to better monitor the condition and determine if the current level of treatment or vet care is managing the condition adequately.

Vaccinations

A vaccine can prevent your pet from getting a serious illness that could cause complications, cause your pet to suffer immensely, or even lead to death.

The purpose of a vaccination is to safely boost your pet's immune system so he or she can fight against that specific pathogen. As a result, your pet will have either less serious symptoms or no symptoms at all if he or she should come in contact with a virus or bacteria.

There are core vaccinations, such as distemper and rabies, that we recommend for all of our pet families. However, there are also non-core vaccines only for pets with certain lifestyles, such as those who stay at a kennel or go outside regularly.

Screening for Serious Conditions

At the routine pet exam, a veterinarian on our veterinary team can look for signs of a serious condition and intervene early to prevent any complications. For instance, we may be able to detect cancer in its infancy, when it's still treatable through less aggressive means.
